Work began in 1516 and lasted a total of more than a century. Built two internal cloisters: one, the Renaissance is characterized by a sequence of elegant stone columns, subsequently incorporated by brick structures for stability problems, and the other to the south, which ended in 1663, with brick porch with fluted pilasters.
Do not miss a visit to the refectory, accessible from the corridor that runs along the two cloisters, decorated with frescoes by an unknown painter of the mid-sixteenth century: on the sidewalls episodes from the Old Testament, on the bottom of a crucifixion
When in 1831 the Benedictine Congregation of Olivetans was dissolved by Pope Gregory XVI took over the Camaldolese who remained until 1861. The complex is home to the library since 2010 Sperelliana.
