monument, fountain, interesting place
It was built in 1241 by Messer Scarnabecco (Scannabecco) of Fagnani from Bologna, mayor of Todi. It consists of a portico, supported by seven columns with capitals, which contains four tanks. The water, seeping from one tank to another, it was used for food, but also to water the horses of those who fought for Todi. The source formed throughout the Middle Ages the most important point of the city's water supply. For the defense of this artifact, rightly considered strategic, the city statutes prescribed that: "nullus possit nec debeat in dicta source Scarnabicci wash nec aliquam suzurram facere."
Partially destroyed by a landslide, the source of Scarnabecco was rebuilt in the nineteenth century. The medieval structure remains only the columns and capitals.
