Imperial Courts is a public housing project located in the Watts area of South Central Los Angeles
The federally-subsidized project of 498 units was completed in May 1944. The project is overwhelmingly inhabited by African-Americans; in 1991 they constituted 88 percent of the population. Parts of the motion picture Training Day were filmed in Imperial Courts to give the movie a true-to-life project setting.
The neighborhood is also notorious as the home of the PJ Watts Crips gang.
