ruins, interesting place
Baroque gardens & pavilions designed in the european baroque style to amuse the Qianlong emperor. This complex was developed over several years from 1745. Giuseppe Castiglione, Ignatius Sickelpart and Bonaventura Moggi were the architects while the waterworks were designed by Michel Benoit.
This complex was sacked during the 1860 occupation by european troops who ironically destroyed one of the only examples of Chinese interest in european art & techology.
