The property was commandeered for the use of an invading American army. The position of the house was crucial: not only would it allow them a convenient location to plan for an invasion of Fort Malden downriver in Amherstburg, it was strategic to Fort Lernoult directly opposite in Detroit. Several hundred soldiers pitched their tents in the orchards and gardens around the house while senior officers occupied the house.

This building is now a National Historic Site of Canada

  • This house was also commandeered by British forces in the war of 1812. Earth works were installed, and cannons placed. From here, a small cannon battle took place between the fort across the river, and the house. The British officers made men circle the house many times to make it seem like there were more British soldiers than there really were.
