This is where gold was found in 1924. It was once Europe's largest and richest gold mine, but since 1967 the mine has been defunct.
On December 10, 1924, gold fever broke out at Fågelmyren after the discovery of a sensational mineralisation. The deposit, situated some 30 km northwest of the town of Skellefteå, was to become the Boliden mine, Europe’s largest and richest gold mine. Operations ended in 1967.
