NAGAPATTINAM :
Rural students, particularly from the fishermen community, are now getting best quality education in the coastal town of Nagapattinam, thanks to the C.S.I. Higher Secondary School. The school was established 184 ( in 2007 ) years ago by Rev. James Lynch, the first Methodist missionary who landed at Nagapattinam on January 28, 1817.
The school called “Methodist Mission High School” was started as a primary school with six students in 1823 and later upgraded into a middle school and high school. It was named Church of South India (CSI) High School after 1947 and became a higher secondary school in 1979.
that the school had the credit of functioning as a college in the name of Findlay College for a few years before it was shifted to Mannargudi.
During the initial stages, Englishmen served as headmasters of the school, and Indians occupied the position later.
Over time
An aided institution with a strength of about 1,500 students, the school has grown and is offering best quality education to both boys and girls of Nagapattinam town and its nearby areas, catering to the needs of poor students, particularly the children of the fishermen community, he said.
Mahendra Doss pointed out that the institution was now managed by Rt. Rev. D. James Srinivasan, Bishop of CSI Trichy-Tanjore Diocese, and Rev. Richard Reid, the correspondent of the school.
The students had brought laurels to the school by securing State ranks in the SSLC and Plus Two public examinations and in several events including sports, cultural and NSS activities. The teachers take a lot of pain and give special coaching to weak students.
