This is a pizza place today.

In the 1980s it was the Au Pied de Cochon French restaurant. It was here on 2 November 1985 that KGB defector Vitaly Yurchenko evaded his CIA security team by climbing out the bathroom window, walked to the Soviet Embassy and re-defected back to the Soviets. It's a long walk up to the Soviet Embassy, then at 1125 16th St NW.

The re-defection of Yurchenko proved to be one of the biggest embarrassments to the CIA during the entire Cold War.

A plaque marks the bench were Yurchenko was sitting.
