The castle called Castello Manfredonico ("Manfredonian Castle") was built by the Chiaramonte count Manfredi III in 1370 east of the town of Mussomeli. The castle's name preserves the contemporary name of the town, which was also called Manfredi after the same aristocrat, before reverting to its older name Mussomeli.
