  • heather meadows is only 4,000 feet above sea level.
  • I have been wondering a long time about the lack of logic in this part of this otherwise masterpiece of movie. That is, what mountains like that can be found only a few hours drive from Clairton, Pennsylvania? A curiosity in the context is a speech by Edward Everett at the location of the battle of Gettysburg, known as Everett's two-hour "Gettysburg oration", that began; "Standing beneath this serene sky, overlooking these broad fields now reposing from the labors of the waning year, the mighty Alleghenies dimly towering before us"... They may be mighty but not as mighty as the mountains in the film.
  • It's a freaking movie and Michael Cimino probably chose the N. Cascades for it's scenic beauty. So what? As you said, it's a masterpiece of movie making and it is certainly a highly entertaining work of FICTION. Just because Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan are glaciated and look nothing like the highest Allegheny hills, doesn't mean we can't just go with the flow and "suspend our disbelief." Most movie-goers couldn't probably care less.
