Famous as a hot spring resort, Kusatsu boasts of about 100 onsens. Some of them have great rotemburos; some are free of charge; some are used for egg boiling; one, in the central square (Yubatake), plays a role of a nice big fountain - with hot water flowing by wooden troughs; the sediment is collected and sold as a souvenir. "Hell Valley" has many rivulets, waterfalls and steam exhausts, and is interesting to walk in. A traditional dance with boards used for "cooling" hot water is performed in one of the onsens.

The town's whereabouts also have many places of interest, such as Kawarayu-Onsen village, Mt.Shirane with its peculiarly gray acidous caldera, Shinakugane forest (the shakugane - the alpine rose - is a symbol of Kusatsu), the Tropical Dome (naturally heated with hot spring water), and etc.
