After slipping from favor the Menagerie became alive again with the arrival in 1696 of the 11 year old Marie-Adelaide, the Savoyard princess who would wed the Duke of Burgundy. Louis XIV ordered renovations by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. This garden pavillion dates from that time. After the princess's death in 1712 the compound fell into irreversible decline.
