St. Anthony's Free Medical Clinic, operates in a converted classroom in a former school building on East 155th Street. Doctors with prosperous suburban practices offer their services there to needy individuals and families who have no health insurance, among them undocumented immigrants afraid that a visit to a local doctor or emergency room will result in deportation. Through the sponsorship of the Catholic Community Franciscan Friars of the Renewal the clinic has been open since July 1998 and provides many free medical services ~to the very poor~. The clinic operates solely by the work of dedicated volunteers and is funded exclusively through donations. Due to the kindness and generosity of volunteer doctors, nurses and other staffers, and with donations of supplies, equipment and funds from individuals and corporations, poor children and adults who are medically uninsured receive free medical care in a safe and healthy environment.clinic offers immunizations, physical exams, asthma care & education, well child visits, anemia checks, and various medicines. All visits and services are offered free of charge. Adult hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday. Children's hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. Urologist, Gynecologist and Dental services are available by appointment.
