Bastogne (French pronunciation: [bas.tɔɲ], Dutch: Bastenaken, German: Bastenach, Luxembourgish: Baaschtnech) is a Walloon city in the municipality of Belgium with the same name, located in the province of Luxembourg in the Ardennes. Bastogne was surrounded early on in the Battle of the Bulge (World War 2) by elements of the Fifth Panzer Division. Without supplies, the 101st Airborne held the town until the 37th Armor Regiment arrived, broke the siege and re-established supply and communication lines.
