Wallekraal

South Africa / Northern Cape / Springbok /

There once was a village here with the name Wallekraal.
Unfortunately it died a natural death and authoraties buldozed most buildings back into dust.
The name Wallekraal has also now disapeared from most maps.
The only buildings that remained was the small church, which is still being used by local farmers, and the school.
The above images is dated 2007.

  • My father was the headmaster of this little school at Wallekraal in 1962-63, just before it closed down. I started school unofficially here, when my older sister enrolled for SubA (Gr.1). We lived in the hostel about 100m from the school, where my mother where my mother was the 'hostel matron'. I am now on the Staff of Stanford University. Some of my best chhildhood memories are still of our life at Wallekraal.
