Nude Beach Area

Sand Island in Rooster Rock State Park is one of the two 'legal' clothing optional, i.e. nude, beaches in Oregon. (The other is Collins Beach on Sauvie Island NW of Portland). It is legal and managed by the State Parks Dept. and their Rooster Rock Staffs. It is located and accessed at the far East end of the Park. The nude use area begins at the bottom of the stairs that lead down to the river behind the Restroom building and contains the entire Sand Island beach areas are far as you can walk. The area is very popular and sees many boaters weighing anchor off shore. There is a 'gay' area to the South along the hillside and a more diverse area on Sand Island out in the Columbia River.   • The Sand Island area of Rooster Rock and Collins Beach on Sauvie Island are both "legal' nude beaches in Oregon State. They are administered/managed by the Oregon State Parks and the Sheriff's Dept. So there is no legal need for nudists to go far away from the parking area and 'be considerate' of the clothed visitors as the entire area from the stairs at the edge of the East parking area to the far East end of Sand Island is clothing optional. Those who wish not to see nudity stay in the Western end of the park. It isn't a problem for families either as everyone knows it's there, it's legal and many families use it.
  • This nude beach is more commonly used older and elderly nudists.
