Aliguay Island

Aliguay Island is part of Dapitan City, it is one of its barangays, it is about 1 to 2 hours boat ride, depending on the weather. The island is under the custody of the Philippine Navy, declaring it as a marine sanctuary. The water surrounding it has lush coral beds and excellent white sand beaches, excellent for snorkelling. There are no water source in the island, drinking water is still fetched in the mainland. There are few residence in the island, which peddles their catch to visitors or to the mainland.

To get there, one must fly to Dipolog and take a land trip to Dapitan. Boats going to Aliguay are usually moored at the fishport besides Bagting Bridge.

  • It is possible to get a pump boat from Dipolog to Aliguay but, be aware that it is a quite an adventure as the boats are small and the sea can be rough. You will also be soaked to the skin in about 3 minutes flat! My girlfriend has an aunt who's family have lived on the island for generations and her uncle and his friend met us in Dipolog one morning and all it cost us was 1200 peso for the fuel. Go to the break water on Dipolog boulevard and make enquiries from some of the guys who are always milling around. It is worth mentioning that the people of Dipolog are just the nicest, most friendly people on earth so don't be afraid to approach anyone.

Our fore fathers found the island from dumaguete because they were fishermen that was the time where muslim pirates sail the sead of our shores. But they sold the island due fear and threat of politician controlling the place....
