This area was formally State Road Shopping Center, a 1950's era strip mall anchored by Montgomery Ward and JCPenney. By the early 2000's the entire center was vacant facing competition from better shopping in nearby districts. In 2009 the city of Cuyahoga Falls purchased the land through eminent domain and demolished the decaying plaza. After a few years wait, a new multi-use business district called the Portage Crossings opened in the fall of 2014.
