1836-1892. The $125,000 tomb was designed and built by J.Q. French of New York. Greek temple with 32 Ionic columns. Called the "most hated man in America" Gould's casket was sealed with lead. This was done to protect his tomb against grave robbers and anarchists. Pinkerton guards were in attendance because people with red bandanas were seen in the vicinity of his tomb when his body was laid out. Pinkerton guards protected the tomb for 10 years after Gould was buried in it. www.museumplanet.com/tour.php/nyc/wc/106
