Shirland is a small unincorporated town 1.5 miles from Harrison, and 8.5 miles from Rockton, Illinois. It is near the confluence of the Pecatonica River and the Sugar River.
It has a town hall, Methodist church, and a grade school. The grade school is one of the four filter schools for Hononegah High.
