Savio Juniorate (Shillong)

Located in the Mawlai township of Shillong, Savio Juniorate is the cradle of the Salesian vocation for the vast majority of the present day Salesians of Guwahati and Dimapur Provinces. Opened in 1962, this aspirantate formed boys from class VII to PUC, and thus supplied a steady number of novices each year. The PUC section was shifted to Rongkhon, Tura, in 1986. Since then, the Class VII boys from Meghalaya were housed at Umran, while those from the rest of NE India were housed at Kumarikatta and currently at Boko in Assam. At present, only the class VIII, IX and X boys are housed in this apostolic school. Temporarily, post-matric boys from non-English medium background are given here a grounding in English before their pre-novitiate at Rongkhon.

  • I was in Savio Juniorate between 1976 and 1979. Fr. MA Issac was the Rector. I wish to share my experience with any one interested. They take us the vow of poverty and force the seminarians to practice it. They starved us with the worst food-smelling and worms filled rice and some jungle leaves boiled as curry. Our letters were read before posting. They brainwash seminarians with a type of spiritualism which is not supported by 'the word of God' E.g.-Superior's will is God's will;, to Jesus through Mary; Don Bosco hasn promised them heaven - How can Don Bosco promise that which can only be attained through Jesus? I am afraid of going to that heaven promised by Don Bosco. Don Bosco had many apparitions of Mary-Right- Now read 2Cor:11-14 to varify if they were real divine apparitions. They tried to brainwash us with false information about Martin Luther and the protestant movement. I was a staunch Catholic. I lost my belief in Catholicism after experiencing Salecians. They smile sweetly-but forget that smile if it is to be sweet, it must be supported by the corresponding qualities of the heart. They forget that a priest must be a good human being first.
