Moruroa (also Mururura, Mururoa) is an uninhabited atoll in the south of the Tuamotu Archipelago island group, French Polynesia.
It was the site of almost 200 extensive atmospheric, surface, underwater, and underground nuclear tests by France between 1966 and 1996. Access to the atoll is prohibited, and is still guarded by the French military.
