Nukutavake (previously known as Reine Charlotte) is an island in the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. It is situated to the east and central of the archipelago, 1,125 km from Tahiti. The island is 5.2 km long and has a width that varies from 450 m to 1.3 km; as a total its area is 5.5 km². It was formed when its lagoon filled up with silt. There are shallow remains of the lagoon filled with marshy vegetation. The coral reef has many coconuts. Tavananui, the largest town, has many abandoned houses due to emigration to Tahiti. The 188 people who remain live primarily on fish and copra production. There is an airport and a cyclone shelter on Nukutavake.
