Nukutavake (previously known as Reine Charlotte) is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. It is situated to the east and central of the archipelago, 1,125 km from Tahiti. The atoll is 5.2 km long and has a width that varies from 450 m to 1.3 km; as a total its area is 5.5 km². The lagoon is very shallow and is partially dried and covered with dense vegetation. The coral reef has amny coconuts. Tavananui, the largest town, has many abandoned houses due to emigration to Tahiti. The people who remain live primarily on fish and copra production. There is an airport, Nukutavake Airport.
