The Wells Fargo Center (Formally Modis Building) is one of Jacksonville's most prominent skyscrapers, with its oversized signage, glass facade, and slanted base. It stands 525 feet 37 floors with two antenna masts increasing the building's total height to 638 feet. The tower was constructed from 1972 to 1974 by the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and was known as the Independent Life Building.

It held the title of the tallest building in Jacksonville from 1974-1990 and the Bank of America Tower surpassed it in height. The building was also the tallest building in Florida until 1981, when th Tampa City Center was completed. The Building was designed by KBJ Architects.
