Former space for insurance and real estate agencies H.M. Cornell (until c. September 1955), real estate agency Cumberland Reality, Inc. (c. September 1955-December 1962), Becker Roofing and Insulating/Becker Roofing Co./Becker Roofing Company ([space shared with H.M. Cornell] early-May 1949 [originally located at 1516 Miner Street]-late 1963 [relocated to 30 North River Road]), and insurance agency The Maine Insurance Agencies, Inc./Maine Insurance Agency/Maine Insurance (1969-c. 2009). The current space is now an Italian restaurant, opened on June 28, 2019 at 3pm. Its original location was located on 686 Lee Street (building demolished in 2020, currently a parking garage entrance for Welkin Apartments) in downtown Des Plaines.

After getting to know the duo of executive chef/owners Alessandro Forti and his wife, Lisa Leslie (not the WNBA basketball player, of course!), nothing has been short of amazement in their passion for their ingredients and equally important, their customers. Alessandro, hailing from Rome, Italy, has spent and dedicated over 20 years in fortifying his cuisine and utilizing only the freshest ingredients to concoct such amazing dishes.

While executive chef Alessandro, trudges through hectic, yet masterfully executed dinner rushes, his wife ceremoniously greets and converses with every customer sitting in the quaint, perfectly intimate forty-five seating Italian restaurant.

Via Roma is exceptional in so many ways, it's hard to keep track. From the homemade, fresh Fettucine Bolognse, to the infamous Zuppa Di Pesce (seafood stew served with fresh crostinis), Via Roma never fails to satisfy our taste for the taste of Italy.

It's perfect for so many different occasions, like dates for two, a girl's night out, wedding proposals (it's happened!), and for whatever fits your fancy, come BYOB with no cork fee, and enjoy a (nice & big) dinner for a great price.
