The Jewish cemetery in Zizkov in Fibichova street (the first Israeli cemetery on Olsany) was founded in 1680 as a plague burial ground in Prague Jewish community. In this place the plaque burials were made again at the time of the plague large epidemy in the second decade 18th century, and lately regular burials since 1787, when the ban of the burials inside the city came into force. The cemetery was used until 1890, when a new Jewish cemetery in Prague-Strasnice was established.
More than 40 000 persons it was buried here, many of important rabbis and scholars among them. The most visited grave there is the tomb of Chief Rabbi Ezechiel Landau (1713-1793), whose tomb was (in connection with the 200 years anniversary of his death) along with other family members gravestones completely restored in 1993. Extensive restorations works there were performed on gravestones of the Rabbi Landau pupil, member of the Rabbi´s College Eleazar Fleckeles (1754-1826) as well as many others.
