Opened in 1897 to accommodate South End students, the Orin Fowler Elementary School was finally closed in favor of the new Viveiros Elementary School, where its name lives on in the school's gym. It was named for Orin Fowler, a former minister at the First Congregational Church and US Representative in the mid-nineteenth century.
