This landfill opened in the late 1980s/early 1990s after the closing of the Fall River Incinerator. To date, the landfill is already past capacity, necessitating the second hill behind the first. The first hill is unofficially the highest point in the city, higher than the previous site of Townsend Hill at the southern tip of the city.
