The former location of the Power Transformer Division of Ferranti-Packard Ltd., manufacture of innovative industrial electronics and transformers. Ferranti-Packard Canada is renowned for its FP 6000 general-purpose computer. In 1961, Canadians designed a computer that was years ahead of its competitors, developed out of university laboratories, but the success of the Ferranti-Packard 6000 was cut short when the British government pulled the plug. In 1964, after only five machines were built, ICL in London purchased the computer divisions of Ferranti, and the Toronto manufacturing operations ceased.
