It has an area of 67 ha , and was declared a protected area in 1951. Currently Arboretum research infrastructure SAS . It is open to the public from April to September.

Mlyňany Arboretum was founded in 1892 by Hungarian nobleman dr.Štefanom Ambrózy-Migazzi .Stephen Ambrózy marriage to Antonia Migazzi acquired estate, which ordered separately oak-hornbeam forest in Vieska of Zittau. In 1894 was completed landmark arboretum - Ambrózy mansion, and in 1905 the manor was officially completed tower characteristic. As incentive to build arboretum were Ambrózy his frequent visits and stays in the middle of vegetation of southern Italy. Along with Ambrose in the building from the beginning involved a professional gardener Jozef Mišák. Arborétum Mlyňany Slovak Academy of Sciences currently has an area of 67 ha.
