abandoned / shut down, historical layer / disappeared object, railway junction
Perkiomen Junction is/was the junction of the Reading Company's Perkiomen branch with its Main Line. The interlocking's significance dropped dramatically after the remnants of hurricane Agnes caused the Perkiomen creek to overflow its banks and wreak havoc upon the largely-adjacent Perkiomen branch. The interlocking was subsequently downgraded to a simple hand-throw switch for what remains of the branch (now a connection to what remains of the Pennsylvania Railroad's Schuylkill and Devault branches).
