Sringeri, is a famous pilgrimage centre located on the banks of the Tunga River running down from Kudremukh. In the 7th century AD, Sri Adi Shankaracharya the great exponent of Advaita Vedanta philosophy, established the world renowned Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham here. There are many famous temples like Shri Sharada temple, Shri Vidya Shankara temple, Shri Rishya Shringeshwara temple (in Kigga, 8 kms away). Sringeri attracts many tourists due to its proximity to Sirimane Falls, Agumbe, Kudremukh, Kundadri etc.
