The area in front Kutafya tower which is separate from the Kremlin wall.
Officially, on modern maps it is part Vozdvizhenka Street. Nevertheless, mentioned in documents of the Moscow Government. On holidays such as New Year's Day, Victory Day, etc a variety of festive events are held in this area.

About Sapozhkovskoy area - The area at the Troitsky Gate and Kutafya towers of the Kremlin, which is the beginning of the former Kalinin Prospekt, previously was called Trinity Proezd, as well as Borisoglebskaya Square - at Borisoglebsk Kutafya gate towers, because the area opens in the direction of Church of Boris and Gleb, which was near Arbat Square.

Since 1922 the area was called by another of its old names - Sapozhkovskaya - this one because in the XVII century it housed a tavern "Sapozhok and a Church of St. Nicholas at Sapozhok which was removed for the construction of the Manezh. In 1946 the plaza joined the street then called Kalinin Prospekt, now Vozdvizhenka Street.
