An English Tudor Revival home set back on a knoll to maximize its view of Fairmount Park. The home, dubbed the Iris Cottage at Quarry Hill, was designed by Henry Jekel and built in 1924 for Percy and Margaret Powell. It includes a remodeled kitchen and master suite.

Powell was the district representative of Equitable Assurance Association, recognized as a top professional.
In 1891, R.E. Houghton, John G North, and other investors had purchased 150 acres from the Riverside Improvement Company near the hills above the future Fairmount Park. They paid $60,000 cash and had plans to develop an exclusive neighborhood. The plan was never carried out but the name Houghton was used to identify the property. The street that was later developed from Market to Pine was named Houghton Avenue in 1926. The Powell’s moved from their home in 1930, after building another home in El Pedro. Clarence and Caroline Stansell purchased and lived there for a decade. During World War II, and many years after Gretchen and T.V. Adams lived here with their three children and were socially prominent with the city of Riverside.
