This is an area where truck drivers can pull off and rest. These used to be signed as "Rest Areas (No Facilities)," then were later renamed "Parking Areas." In 2001 this and all other parking areas on South Carolina interstates were closed, probably as a result of the potential of illegal activity taking place there. In 2008 they were reopened.
