In 2002 WOLO-TV (Channel 25) was bought out by Bahakel Communications, a Charlotte media conglomerate, and for three years its Columbia newscasts would originate not from Columbia, but from Charlotte. During this time the station's ratings fell from third to fourth. In 2005 Bahakel moved WOLO's newscasts back to Columbia. Since then, the station has tried to drive home the fact that they actually operate out of Columbia again by re-branding itself "ABC Columbia," airing several local promo spots showing station personalities taking about how much they love Columbia, and setting up shop in this glass-walled "Today" show-like studio on what is perhaps Columbia's best-known street corner. The station's ratings still remain rather low, and the notoriously weak signal doesn't help matters much, either.
