The Melville Koppies (small hills) Nature Reserve is an ancient iron-age site where indiginous plants grow, there is a proliferation of quartz crystal and small animals such as guinea fowl and mongooses roam. The views afford a 360 degree view of Johannesburg - excellent views of the city centre, old mine dumps to the south west, views of the Magaliesberg mountains on a clear day to the north. Ancient rock circles used since ancient times now bear witness to worship by the local Zionists.
