Parktown is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. Located on a ridge (on which the present suburbs of Westcliff, Parktown and Linksfield are built), it was begun in 1892. Soon, many wealthy entrepreneurs (Randlords) were building mansions along the ridge, and showing off their newfound affluence with parties, croquet on the lawns, and lavish dinners. Today the suburb is home to many Victorian homes, and a number of designs by Sir Herbert Baker.
