The exact year of construction of Simuna Church is not known, but is among the oldest in Estonia (thirteenth century) together with the Tallinn Cathedral. In the course of several wars, the church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. A part of the tower, which was used for protection, is still there. The wood carver Chr. Ackermann built an altar for the church and Carl Sigismund Walther painted the altar painting. Organ builder Gustav Normann built an organ for the church – it was one of the first works of an Estonian organ builder. You can also visit the observation tower of the belfry, which offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
