USA / California / Casa Conejo / Thousand Oaks, California
interesting place, historical layer / disappeared object

Open between 1960 and 1965, Rancho Conejo Airport was part of Janss Corporation's Rancho Conejo Light Manufacturing & Research Center. Northrop was the primary tenant, with their Institute of Technology and Northrop Corporation Ventura Division both located at the southern end of the runway. Much of their work was related to the space program, including the Gemini and Apollo programs. Most of the airport scenes in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" were filmed here.

Photo #1: Aerial view taken in 1961. Photo #2: The "airplane crashing into restaurant" scene today and then. The top 1/4 looks across what is now Newbury Park, while the bottom 3/4 is what it looked like during filming. Photo #3: The Three Stooges as the firemen. Photo #4: The former airport entrance and parking lot as it looked in 2003.
