Once the coat arms of the Earls of Warrick, this ancient symbol is also found engraved in a stone above a doorway in nearby Newburgh's High Street. It is believed to have been associated with Lindores Abbey. In the 1980s, as part of the local community pagent, the bear was carved into the hill by local farmer, Tom Howison. During the local festival, if weather conditions permit, the locals set fire to the Bear. The hill is now known as The Bear. There is also a local pub in Newburgh called The Bear
