Over 800 years ago Rothwell was granted a Royal charter by King John to hold an annual fair, although records show that a medieval fair or market was held prior to this.
The fair in takes place near Holy Trinity Church and is traditionally held for five days around the feast of Holy Trinity. There's evidence of a market taking place in the town as long ago as 1154.
