In the early nineteenth century (1810), in Govăjdia, Hunedoara county, was built the most modern blast furnace for iron ore smelting in Europe for that time, iron made at Govăjdia can be found today at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The old blast furnace was declared a monument of industrial architecture (Law No.5 of March 6, 2000).
