post office, regulatory authority

The 2 1/2 storey brick and stone building was erected in 1905-6 and served as Sandwich's first post office building. Originally known as the Federal Building it also served as a customs house. It was designed by David Ewart of the Federal Department of Public Works and demonstrates a transition from Romanesque to Classical style. For the longest time, Canada Post inhabited this building, before moving out of it in 2013. In 2020, however, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (owners/managers of the Gordie Howe International Bridge) moved in, setting up their Sandwich Community Office.
