Sydney G. Walton Square (San Francisco, California)

USA / California / San Francisco / San Francisco, California / Jackson Street, 100

Walton Park is open to the public but privately owned and maintained by the Golden Gateway Center and Carr America. The award-winning, two-acre site was designed by the well-known landscape architect Peter Walker (managing partner of Sasaki Walker, later to become SWA—a renowned Sausalito and SF landscape firm) to suggest an alpine meadow surrounded by mountains (the park itself represents a meadow while the “mountains” are the skyscrapers behind us).

Sydney Grant Walton, for whom our park is named, was a San Francisco banker who lived from 1901 to 1960. Reportedly he was a multitalented business-man, cultural leader and vice-chairman of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency.
