statue, monument, column, catholicism
The statue is the work of Giuseppe Obici, while the column came from the Romans: it was indeed found in the Campo Marzio in 1778.At the base are placed the other four statues, also in bronze, depicting Moses, David, Isaiah and Ezekiel.
The statue and column were erected there by Pope Pius IX in 1856 after he declared the dogma of the 'Immaculate conception of Mary', erected thanks to the work of 220 firefighters from direct Poletti.
The Pope comes here to pray on each December the 8th, for the poor, workers, and Families.
