Landmark west side restaurant specializing in fresh seafood. The triangular-shaped building was built in 1927 by Otto Proschke, who had a hot dog and barbecue stand near Edgewater Park. He spent $250,000 to build the unusual building for Proschke's Barbeque, "the world's biggest hamburger restaurant."
Proschke sold the building in 1942 to Don Strang Sr., founder of the Strang Corp., who opened a Howard Johnson's Restaurant and an arcade-style group of shops. In 1972, Don Strang Jr. gave up the HoJo franchise and opened Don's Lighthouse.
