Old Railroad Bridge

The original bridge crossing between Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, this bridge carried both a railroad and a road at one time. Later it carried only a railroad. A lift section was in place for the railroad after the canal was built leading to the Wilson Dam Locks. When L&N Railway abandoned the railroad the lift section was removed.

  • For a complete history and information on the use of the bridge today, visit our website at http://www.oldrailroadbridge.org When the L&N abandoned the bridge it was deeded over to a a non-profit organization which was The Old Railroad Bridge Company, Inc. Today the ORBC maintains the bridge as part of the TVA walking trail as well as having special events such as viewing of fireworks for the annual Spirit of Freedom celebration on the 4th of July and hosting a Handy Festival event.
