Germany / Bayern / Miltenberg /
 town, Fachwerk style (architecture)

Miltenberg lies at the south-western Main square, surrounded by the hills of Spessart and Odenwald. First mentioned in 1237, the town experienced early economic heydays due to its location at the old trading road from Nuremberg to Frankfurt. This advantage turned to harm during the 30-years war and the town had sufffered by the middle of the 17th century.

During the following decades and centuries, Milltenberg did not play a major role in political history. One of the reasons the medieval town structure and townscape are still preserved today. The town's former significance can still be seen in the magnificent half-timbered buildings through out the older part of the town.
