Town in central-west New South Wales, pop. ca 550, located on Mandagery Creek. Dating from 1860. It was here that Australia's biggest gold robbery happened when the bushrangers Frank Gardiner, Ben Hall and gang ambushed the Forbes-Orange Cobb and Co coach in 1862, and stole 77 kilograms of gold plus £3,700 in cash.
